The newly refurbished Duckboard Function Centre at the Repatriation Campus of the Austin Hospital undertook an extensive makeover, transforming the old commercial laundry site into a modern function space with meeting rooms and a large presentation area.

The brief for our team was to provide a solution that would allow a simple and seamless user experience.

To achieve this, the team at Vision One Technologies firstly installed a Crestron DMPS3-200-C matrix as the backbone of the system. Sources included multiple HDMI for PC/laptop connections and a Kramer Via Connect Pro wireless collaboration device. A Hitachi CPWX8750W 7,500 ANSI Lumens high brightness wide screen projector was used as the display device. Limitations within the space meant that the projector was installed adjacent to the projection screen approximately 18 metres away on the opposite wall. A custom long throw zoom lens was required to achieve the necessary image throw to the screen. The screen used was a Screen Technics 150” CinemaSnap, whilst audio was provided using an AUDAC CONGRESS2.3E audio system that included AXIR 240W column speakers to either side of the screen, together with a 450W BASO10 wall mounted sub-woofer. An AUDAC 250W energy efficient power amplifier was used to drive the sound throughout the space.

Operating the audio visual system was the main challenge as the brief was to allow users to control the system manually from the rack location, as well as be able to operate the system wirelessly from a presentation lectern that had the flexibility to be located anywhere throughout the space. This was achieved by installing a Crestron TSW-750-W 7” touch screen to the wall beside the equipment rack location, allowing users to control the system for simple PC/laptop presentations. A Blue Gum custom lectern was fitted with an Apple iPad using a Crestron control interface, replicating the touch screen. A wireless SHURE gooseneck microphone completed the system providing a fully wireless audio and video solution in the space.

Two other meeting rooms were also fitted with audio visual solutions. The main meeting room included a Hitachi CPWX3541WN 4,000 ANSI Lumens WXGA projector. A Grandview 103” motorised screen, 40w wall mounted powered speakers, and a JED T440 keypad controller. Whilst the smaller meeting room included a Samsung EM75E 75” commercial LED display, and also controlled by a JED keypad.
